Cougars hope third time is the charm
The Washington State Cougars hope the third time is the charm. After losing both games this season to Oregon, they hope Wednesday's first round Pac-10 tournament game against the Ducks turns in their favor. The Cougars last loss to the team from Eugene came last Saturday in Oregon (15-17, 7-11 Pac-10) - a 74-66 loss that marked the final game on the 83-year-old McCarthur Court.
Washington St. to face Arizona in first round
For the second straight year, the Washington State women's basketball team will meet Arizona in the opening round of the Pac-10 tournament. The winner? Well, they'll face the daunting task of playing one of the best teams in the country: Stanford. The Cougars (8-21, 3-15 Pac-10) are hoping things turn out differently than they did a year ago against the Wildcats.

Stuckey returns to team after heart evaluation
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Pistons say three doctors have cleared Rodney Stuckey for exercise after a heart evaluation. Stuckey collapsed on the bench during Friday's game at Cleveland and was taken away on a stretcher. He missed Sunday's game against Houston and will be out again Wednesday against Utah.
Big day for Piper: Player of the Week AND an MVP
First came the news that Eastern Washington's Julie Piper was the Big Sky Conference's Player of the Week. And then came something much bigger. Eastern fills football schedule
The 2010 schedule for the Eastern Washington University football team is nearly complete, as a season-opening road game at Nevada will fill the 11th and final game on its schedule, EWU athletic director Bill Chaves has announced. The schedule includes six home games, but whether five or six of them take place at Woodward Field in Cheney, Wash., has yet to be determined.
Earlywine gets contract extension at Eastern Washington
Eastern Washington University head men's basketball coach Kirk Earlywine has received a contract extension and will return for his fourth season at the helm of the Eagles, EWU athletic director Bill Chaves has announced. Earlywine, 45, is 32-58 in his first three seasons, including a 17-31 record in the Big Sky Conference.
Idaho golfer leads UNLV tournament
BOULDER, Nev. – University of Idaho sophomore Kayla Mortellaro held onto her lead after the second round of the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational. Mortellaro, like the rest of the field, battled wind and hail and saw an elevation in scores – although her one-over 73 gives her a two-day 138 and a one-stroke lead over UNLV Therese Koelbaek.
Vandals in Reno: Idaho to face New Mexico St. in tournament
After finishing the regular season with a road win against conference-rival Nevada, the Idaho Vandals can now turn their attention to more important matters: most notably the New Mexico State Aggies. The Idaho women's team is set to play NMSU Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament.

The Vandals (14-15, 5-10 WAC) clinched a spot in the WAC tournament next week. Idaho had a 22-point lead with 13:28 remaining when San Jose State's Adrian Oliver woke up. He hit four 3-pointers to spark a comeback that left the Spartans (14-15, 6-9) trailing 78-69 with 1:53 to play.
Idaho's Otero saves best for last
MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho senior Charlotte Otero saved her best for last in Wednesday night's Senior Night game against Louisiana Tech, but the Lady Techsters spoiled the evening after an early second-half swoon by the Vandals. Otero scored a career-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, with six assists, four rebounds and two steals to lead Idaho in her final home game as a Vandal.

Playing in winds of up to 35 mph, the Bulldogs (5-5) registered 16 hits including eight homers and scored runs in all but two innings.
GSL schools well-situated on 3A brackets
If you had to judge Shadle's or North Central's chances in the State 3A tournament based on how the pairings turned out on Sunday, as a GSL fan you'd be pretty pleased. In the boys bracket, neither team has to face a top-ranked team right out of the gates. The WIAA released the bracket over the weekend, matching Shadle against Renton and North Central against Union in the first round.
