Gonzaga said it would hold a news conference at 4:45 p.m. to address the addition to the conference. BYU said it wouldn't hold a news conference until Wednesday at 11 a.m. (PT)

Gonzaga Soccer Ranked No. 10
SPOKANE, Wash. - For the second straight week Gonzaga University's women's soccer team is ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) West Regional rankings. The Bulldogs (2-1-1) are tied with UC Irvine (1-1-1) for 10th in this week's balloting after being alone in 10th in the first regional poll of the season last week.


Eagles Focus on Wolfpack
CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington kicks off its football season Thursday with a road trip to Nevada against the Wolfpack of the WAC. The Eagles wrapped up their fall camp with a final scrimmage last week, with the starters riding the bench for a change. It wasn't until after the scrimmage that the team moved over to the new red turf at Woodward Field, soon to be Roos Field.


WAC Demands $5 Million from Fresno St., Nevada; Launches TV Network
DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference is demanding a $5 million exit fee by Oct. 25 from Fresno State and Nevada, which are bolting to the Mountain West Conference. WAC commissioner Karl Benson said the league would sue the universities if they don't pay up. He also said the league won't let the schools leave until after the 2011-12 season.


Montana Football Player Arrested on DUI Charge
MISSOULA, Mont. - The Montana Highway Patrol says a University of Montana football player faces a drunken driving charge after crashing into a fence early Sunday. Trooper Andrew Novak says the patrol received several reports about someone driving erratically before he stopped 21-year-old Josh Stuberg of Helena.


Three Zags Play at FIBA World Championships
Three Zags playing for their respective home teams saw mixed results at the FIBA World Championships in Turkey over the weekend. Gonzaga sophomore Elias Harris, playing for Germany, played 19 minutes in his team's win over Serbia. Junior Robert Sacre, playing for Canada, played 8 minutes in a loss to Lithuania.


Eastern Washington Overwhelmed in Loss to Titans
The Eastern Washington University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2010 season on Sunday, as Cal State Fullerton topped EWU 4-0 at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, Calif. Eastern falls to 0-1-1 on the season, while Cal State Fullerton improves its record to 1-1-0.


Turnovers, Big Plays cost #5 Central Washington in 35-10 loss
The Central Washington University Wildcats scored the game's first three points and finished with 370 yards of total offense, but three turnovers and several big plays cost the fifth-ranked Wildcats in their 35-10 home loss

Neck Injury Ends Career for WSU's Daniels
Washington State safety LeAndre Daniels' playing career is over because of broken neck.  The school said Friday that follow-up tests on the sophomore from San Leandro, Calif., revealed a C1 neck fracture. Daniels was injured during a preseason practice this month.


Eastern Earns First Win of 2010
SEATTLE, Wash. - Behind the strong hitting of Chenoa Coviare and consistent serving from Allison Reinstein, the Eastern Washington University Eagles topped Mercer 3-0 (26-24, 28-26, 25-13) in their first match of the 2010 campaign. The Mercer Bears could not find an answer for Coviare, as the senior from Medford, Ore., tallied 15 kills and only four errors in her 25 attempts.


Bowman, Frieson Sign Pro Contracts Overseas
Two of the best Gonzaga women's basketball players in the team's history have signed contracts to play professionally overseas, the school said Friday. Heather Bowman, who ended her career as the Bulldogs' and West Coast Conference all-time scoring leader, will play for Riva Basketball Club from Switzerland.


Passing Game Excels in Cougars' Final Scrimmage
PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's final scrimmage featured a flurry of passing as the Cougars prepared to open the season Sept. 4 at Oklahoma State, which features a pass-first offense. Starting quarterback Jeff Tuel completed 8 of 15 passes for 87 yards in Thursday's short scrimmage, while backup Marshall Lobbestael connected on 10 of 15 passes for 95 yards.


Eastern Defense Scores on One of Three Interceptions

Marlow Leaves Oregon for Washington State
One of the men who helped build Oregon into the program it is today has reportedly resigned and will take a position with Washington State. Washington State Sports Information Director, Bill Stevens said Marlow would "be a part [of the school's] Sr. Administrative Staff.


WSU Basketball Inks Seattle Deal with Portland
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University men's basketball team will take on Pacific Northwest foe, Portland, at the 2010 Cougar Hardwood Classic held Nov. 23 at Seattle's KeyArena, Idol Sports and Entertainment announced Thursday.


Eastern Washington, Portland Hatch Dam Plan
The Eastern Washington University Eagles and the Portland State University Vikings will begin a five-sport rivalry cup called The Dam Cup in 2010-11. The Dam Cup will celebrate the friendly rivalry between the states of Oregon and Washington within the Big Sky Conference. The so-named rivalry refers to the four dams linking Oregon and Washington that one passes on the 339-mile drive from the Portland State campus to the Eastern Washington campus.


Montana Defensive End Out for Season
MISSOULA, Mont. - University of Montana defensive end Josh Harris is out for the 2010 season with an injury suffered in Saturday's scrimmage. The sophomore from Kalispell was a projected starter. Griz coach Robin Pflugrad says Harris worked hard during the offseason and was having a great fall camp.


Eastern Decides Against Scrimmage on Red Turf
CHENEY, Wash. - Don't worry, it'll be finished. But Eastern Washington said Tuesday its scrimmage on the new red field in Cheney would have to wait. Instead of playing Wednesday at what will be named Roos Field, the team will hold its scrimmage at the practice fields as originally scheduled.


Louisiana Tech Suspends 4 Players Indefinitely
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech has suspended four players indefinitely for violating a team rule. First-year coach Sonny Dykes says wide receivers Tim Molton, R.P. Stuart and Cruz Williams and linebacker Kiamni Washington each has been suspended retroactive to Aug. 23.

Whitworth's Hymel earns All-America status
Alex Hymel is an NCAA Division III All-American in the javelin for the third straight season after finishing eighth in his event on Thursday during the first day of the outdoor track and field national championships at Baldwin-Wallace College. Hymel (Jr., Damascus, Ore.) finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 201'-5" (61.40 meters).


Whitworth sends 9 to D-III championships
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Nine Whitworth University student-athletes are headed to Berea, Ohio this week to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College. Seven men and two women will compete. Four former All-Americans, including two former national champions, will lead Whitworth's men. The Bucs hope to make a run at a high team finish.


Former Whitworth tight end catches on with Seahawks
SEATTLE, Wash. - Former Whitworth University tight end Michael Allan will get a second chance to make the National Football League. The two-time All-American and school record-holder has signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday and has been placed on the team's 80-man roster.

BYU's Religious Roots Make Move to WCC Easier
SPOKANE, Wash. - Here's something you don't hear all the time. The West Coast Conference actually considered BYU's religious affiliation to be a positive instead not a turn-off. Brigham Young University, owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, said it would leave the Mountain West Conference and place the majority of its sports, minus football, in the WCC.

WACO, Texas -- The Central Washington University football team is ranked fifth in the American Football Coaches Association Division II preseason poll for 2010, as was released Monday by the AFCA.This marks the third consecutive season that CWU is ranked in the top 25 by the AFCA heading into the season. The Wildcats were listed 11th in the 2008 preseason poll and 14th in the 2009 preseason ranking.


Looking to Overcome Offensive Struggles

Former Wildcat Snowdon Signs with Philadelphia Phillies
Andrew Snowdon, who was a part of the Central Washington University baseball program for three seasons including two years as a letterman for the Wildcats, has signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies organization.


Two Wildcats Named to Division II All-Academic Team
Central Washington University track and field standouts Tyler Fischer (Cashmere, Wash.) and Torrie Self (Kent, Wash./Kent-Meridian HS) have both been named to the 2010 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Team.
